I'm not sure if you're quoting for use on the forums or not, but don't use them in the search. For example, if you're looking for episodes of Family Guy, a good search could be: Family?Guy&^german or Family&Guy&^german EDIT: Disregard as I just reread your post. I defer to Alex' comments...

I like the built in search index feature of UE. You don't need to search on a web-based search engine, import the nzb and then download the files, it's all handled in-program.

Stupid tech decided to use one of the servers for the new internet (even with HUGE signs saying DON'T TOUCH on it) so essentially it was disconnected. All fixed.

i had a tech out to the house to install new internet service. It's still running off of the old one which is working fine, but one of the servers is now offline. He may have bumped it or done something else stupid. I should be home in 2 or so hours and check out what's up with the server.

Search service down temporarily

One of the components for the ISP is faulty and needs to be swapped out. Downtime should be approximately an hour from this posting.

i've had similar issues with usenetserver.com. i use nntp1.usenetserver.com, nntp2. and news. For some reason one or the other nntpx servers will sometimes have a few threads hang. letting them fail on their own(and thereby moving to another server) or stopping and starting the download fixes it for...

rename your database directory and try from scratch. perhaps some odd setting is messing with it.

sounds like you need a password manager with notes. I personally put my info in my outlook contacts in a password encrypted PST file.

so, for example, giganews would have a contact entry and the user/pass and any other notes would be in the contact info.

It's simply a redirect. www.usenetexplorer.com is much easier to remember :-)

Topic: UE crashes if unrar process runs out of space [just exits?]

correct. For example, the contents of a rar archive is 4gb in size and you only have 1gb free. When the unrar process uses up the space, it forces UE to hard-crash/exit. no dr watson or other error handling.

Please note that if the scheduler is active, the pause button will not... well... pause.

UE crashes if unrar process runs out of space [just exits?]

I've found that if the Unrar process runs out of space, UE simply stops. I don't see any debug log files and don't get any indication that it caught the exception. (no dr watson or other system logging either).

I've been really tight on space lately so have confirmed it is a recreatable issue.

doubleclicking column shrinks it to 1 char wide

In programs such as Excel or other programs with columns, if you doubleclick a column, it will change the size to accommodate the largest cell in that column. UE shrinks it regardless of cell sizes to just 1 character.

Not a major issue, just add it to the list of minor items to be fixed :-)

It could be a matter of retention on your usenet provider. UE currently has I believe over 180 days' worth of retention. If your news servers do not have that much, you may run into retention issues.
