Topic: Servers not obeying Strict flag. What am I doing wrong?

It seems a bit backward to me though. I would think it would be easier to use a flag to tell NewsPro to only use this server for fills, instead of having to mark a higher priority server as not allowing lower priority fills. All NewsPro knows is that it has x-number of articles to download with x-n...

But, deadken, since you don't have the strict flag on your priority 2 servers but only on your priority 1 server, if your number of download tasks exceeds the total number of threads for your priority 2 servers, priority 1 will kick in right away, since there is nothing restricting that, as Eric men...

No, it shouldn't. If you've added a server properly, you should see it listed under "Servers" when you open the "Newsgroups & Servers" window (File>Newsgroups & servers).

When you stated you "imported the server," what exactly did you mean?

SOP would be to click on the "newsgroups & servers" icon to open up that window. Expand the Newsgroup List, find the server, right click and choose "Get All Newsgroups (latest article numbers)." I'm assuming that, if necessary, you've set up the server with the necessary user...

You can set the retention under Properties>Newsgroups to however many days you want to go back (e.g. 1-2=2 days, 1-7=7 days, etc.). Even faster would be to set the "Last headers per server" setting to a specific figure (e.g. 10000).

Or, to put it another way, each database folder contains Data, Copy and Temp folders (they are created automatically when making a new database). So, the default Newspro database folder is: <drive>:\...\Newspro.

It most likely means that, while the headers still exist which will show a completed green box, the server doesn't have the articles themselves. Check the error tab in the Task Manager.

The bad news however, maybe its my bad englisch but i thought you said delete the "hkey_current_user->software->albir" dir. Erik, I don't think it's your English, because that's how I read it also. I'd be curious to know exactly which subkey Alex was referring to, as it would seem deletin...

but if to choose between the two options such approach will clearly render all text capabilites useless. Alex, I don't know what you mean by this. I have often wondered why NP can't treat threads the same way Outlook Express does: new replies are always shown, irregardless if the parent is deleted ...

If I save files to the Newspro Temp folder, will they be deleted when something else gets processed?
Make sure that "Autoclear temp directory" is unchecked under Properties>General.

No kidding. I never knew that, as I've never dealt with a server that had such a short retention. That seems a bit inefficient now, don't you think, with the advent of message IDs and the rest. Has Alex ever addressed this?

After retrieving new headers i noticed that some of the oldest headers dissapeared
They still should be in your local database (the length of time governed by the "Track for xx days" option). Try undeleting headers and see if they show up.
