As far as I know, UE has been out about a week now. There has been one small revision, up to v1.01. It seems to be a port of Newspro to a new visual framework, but Alex has said that he has rethought all of the code as he reimplements it.
I have seen no reports of crashes or other major problems. Is it really ready for primetime use, or should I consider it to be a Beta to be tested, but not used?
The little testing I have done tells me that UE has hit the ground ready to be used. Sure, there are some things missing, but the core stuff seems to be there and functioning solidly.
What do you other people out there think?
Steven
Is it Good?
It's no beta anymore, and not really a port of the old NewsPro.
True, the looks and feel still are a lot similar (so ar much of the function's) but as far as I know the engine is completely new
Just enjoying the good stuf...

I am a long-time NP user as well. The UE GUI is very similar, and actually much improved. I do find that NP had some more "tune-able" options, but as far as performance goes, UE is the hands-down winner. I've had zero crashes and have experienced no issue that cause me problems in downloading/searching/filtering/posting whatsoever.
Here is my comment on UE vs NP from another thread.
I hope this helps.

Gary Gnews wrote:I have to say that I am completely blown away by UE. I have a high-end machine dedicated to usenet. I used to run six instances of NP to get the retention and number of groups that I want. My machine could handle it, but it was pretty much drained of resources 24/7 and global searches took several minutes. With one instance of UE, I am using more groups than I was in all six instances of NP with 30-day retention, my machine's resources are barely tapped, and I can do a global search in a matter of seconds. Really, an amazing accomplishment.
I hope this helps.

I didn't realize that so much testing had been done. Maybe I am out of the loop, but UE just kinda popped up on the web site, I had no idea it was coming.
UE is great. I have switched over and am no longer using NP. It seems to handle large sets of headers much better and is easier on computer resources. Not a crash yet!
Thanks Alex and crew
