Hi,
I'm not exactly sure how "Suppres get headers" works.
How can I save header download time from newsfeeds servers? Do I risk missing posts when using this feature?
Thanks,
Kevin
Message-ID direct and Newsfeeds
it won't get headers from servers with suppess get headers enabled.
to minimize missing posts you can suppress get headers on general servers using them as msg-id direct source and download headers only from specialized servers.
it is the main idea, maybe someone who uses that widely will give you more detailed answer.

When you turn on message id direct for certain servers, Newspro will try to retrieve messages from those servers whether or not the header database shows it to be present on that server. If not there, Newspro will move on in priority order.
If you turn on suppress getting headers, you will not download the headers from that server, it's that simple. I have Newsfeeds, also, premium plus account, and I fiddled with these settings quite a bit. It's an excellent feature, but if all you have is a Newsfeeds account (ie - no premium backup service), you may find articles missing if you just get headers from a few of the Newsfeeds servers. They're not as pitiful as some services by themselves, and added together, they're very complete, but by themselves, the server completion is only average.
In addition to Newsfeeds, I have an account with a premium service and with another through the cable company (which is only a gig a month). I set up the premium service to get headers, and the specialty servers I use (mp3 and multimedia) also to get headers, and turned on msg-id-direct for all the others. You don't want to suppress headers or use msg-id-direct on the specialty servers because you'll waste a lot of downloading time checking (for instance) the image server for mp3's, the mp3 server for VCD's, etc. It's OK to use it on the more general servers, though.
Additionally, I set the 1 gig a month premium server to the lowest priority, with both msg-id-direct and suppress hdrs turned on (I failed to mention that headers count against the *&(@#$ 1 gig).
This setup worked OK, but, at the time, Newsfeeds had issues, and it was actually costing me more time in attempted downloads from dead servers than I was saving in getting headers. Probably is better, these days, as I haven't seen a server error from Newsfeeds in about 4 days (Knock on wood). They're moving stuff around again this week though . . .
Unless you have a backup service, I wouldn't suppress headers on Newsfeeds. If you have a backup, and frequently challenge the download limits, you can do it as I described and fiddle with it to meet your own needs.
