I have 4 virtual groups.
When I try to select all four (mouse click + Shift) I can only get three to be selected.
I need to go back and double click to get the fourth virtual group to open?

group1 selected <<shift+click here #1
group2 selected
group3 un selected << can't shift+click a range to get this group selected
group4 selected <<shift+click here #2 then choose "Open" from menu

yes i noticed something like that in the vista beta, forgot to check it now.
probably they changed something in the implementation of the tree control which normally doesn't allow multiple selection, btw many other programs are using the same approach as workaround.

but anyway also as to vista i need to check the issue with changing system tray icon to make it more visible and also maybe i need to add an error message for indexing server i'll look into it as well.

I get similar issues under Vista when selecting multiple servers or selecting multiple newsgroups. The usualy SHIFT-CLICK / CTRL-CLICK functionality to select multiple items in the servers and newsgroups panes do not behave as they should.
