Properly Renaming Duplicate File Names

Post by Multi Threader »

I've set (Properties -> General -> Saving mode (initial) -> Overwrite) to Rename, but files resulting from automatic watch and download don't seem to be getting renamed. So, many files are overwritting each other. However, renaming does seem to work fine when I explicity save the attachments of a group of articles. How can I get renaming to work for automatic watch files as well?

yes, for the automatic mode (what goes thgrough autosave dialog, potential unsupervised save) it doesn't overwrite/renames automatically, there is only one set of settings for manual and automatic mode, as to asking for filenames or for delete it is presumed there is noone to ask so it is ignored for automatic mode. i thought it is better to keep everything and to have more drastic options only for explicit save.

This helps answer my question above. Sorry I didn't look for it well enough before posting.

Another question though: when you say it "keeps everything" in automatic mode, where does it keep it? Does it keep duplicate filenames as completed .npr's? Is there some way to make the default behavior in automatic mode to just save with renaming?
Thanks,

you just need to open the newsgroup, locate the headers, then select them and invoke 'save attachments'. headers with bodies have the 'body' icon (like notepad sign, blue or green - single part/partial accordingly).

to see all headers with bodies you can invoke edit menu->message filter, 'messages' 'are' 'with bodies'

article bodies aren't kept by file names, they are kept by message-id (though indirectly) which is unique. there is no need to access .npr files directly.
