How do I reduce Database size

Post by celsdon »

Is there an easy way to reduce the NewsProData database size. Mine is currently 8.8GB and I am sure most of that is wated space or partials - as I only have a 20GB drive, it is reducing my download ability quite substantially. In the past I have just deleted it and started again, but thats getting annoying. Any advice.

Thanks

Make sure you have "Edit-> Enable purging deleted headers" on.
Running "File->optimize database access" can help a little too.
Possibly "Partial->Delete bodies of partial with missing parts in all groups" helps.

If you saved all bodies you can delete the remaining *.npr files from the NewsPro\Data folder.

Also, delete the message bodies that you no longer need. For each newsgroup (or folder), use the Message filter "With Bodies," then select all the messages that show up, right click and select "Delete Bodies." Usually, a database that size means you have a lot of binary file bodies in your database.
