1. Is there a way to make "expand all threads" the default, or sticky?

if you don't need threads at all (e.g. it is a binary newsgroup and you are only interested in binaries) - you can disable threads for all or selected newsgroups in properties->newsgroups, to set 'threads' to 'no', or to do the same in the threads menu, but the latter won't last.

currently on newsgroup opening threads are collapsed by default, opening all threads doesn't make much sense, but i'm planning an arrangement when initially threads are collapsed but once opened their state will be preserved on reopening newsgroup views.

I often like to have threads opened when I am viewing binary groups. If you add the arrangement where once opened NP would preserve that setting for that ng, that would satisfy my wants. But it's not a biggie!
