Filter question

I'm having trouble setting filters up, I have read the short UE docs

I'd like to have a filter that eliminates all messages in a newsgroup except those containing the term ".chm" (for the sake of example here)

I've placed a watch filter subjects for ".chm" and kill filter for "*". Is that how it should be? The filter might be working however, I see entries being "ticked on" (checkmarked) and some others not

How can I remove non ticked topics from appearing? Is my filter ok?

found another way to show only files, by setting the "message are partial" filter as the default filter for newsgroups.. I guess that'll do.. I still don't understand how filtering works though

edit: just read that filters don't filter old msg just new ones that are retrieved.. that probably explains my probs

with a newsgroup of virtual group open, you can filter the contents with the quick filter bar. just type in what you want to find. so, for your example, you'd enter ".chm" without the quotes.
