Can I set my Watch/Get Headers to a time of day?

Post by DonM »

Hi,

in Properties/Watch the dialog box says "Get Headers every [ ] minutes".

I would prefer to enter a time of day so that the header downloads happen and a slack time... like the middle of the night.

Is this possible?

thanks

if you have enough RAM and are able to download all newsgroups into RAM (if retention is reasonable it might be the case) - getting headers is quite fast then and if you set it at frequent intervals you won't even notice its impact, you can download even all usenet headers at small fraction of connection bandwidth, especially if your server supports compressed headers.

do you have large volumes of headers which take noticeable time to load and all newsgroups cannot be contained in RAM, e.g. you cannot open all newsgroups at the same time?

Hi Alex,

I have 2GB of RAM on a 3 GHz dual core PC and I have a cable broadband connection.

When UE starts to update the headers it essentially freezes my PC for about 5 minutes.

I very rarely try to open more than one NG at a time.

thanks
