I have defined a user group and successfully populated it with 13 000 headers, many of them only a few days old.

The problems is that, every time I go to download one of the messages, the server tells me that the message cannot be found.

does it tell you something like 'joining newsgroup ... didn't help'? does it list the newsgroup right?

if you use v3.79 or higher it should.

it means almost all possibilites are exhausted.

did you try to download the headers directly and check whether server is able to download them? it would mean it only can download by article number but i didn't hear about such kind of server malfunction.

I was using 3.71.

As soon as I installed 3.81, I could now see which newsgroup was attached to each article, and there was no problem downlading message.
