XPAT Question - Search on author

Why can't I search on autor on with an Xpat search?
Is this because it is not supported by the Newsservers?

the 'field' should be as in article headers, e.g. see on the top here:
http://www.google.com/groups?selm=78io8 ... put=gplain
the author is in the 'from' field.
in the xpat dialog you can type in any field
