The current XPAT search is limited by the number of groups that will fit into the group string. It would be nice if there was a way to search say all groups which a server reports as having over 100 headers. Alternatively, just increasing the size of the search string would be a great first step.

the newsgroup string is quite long.

you can copy a number of newsgroups from the newsgroup list (not only subscribed - file menu->newsgroup list), sort them by articles then select newsgroups you need and invoke 'copy' selected from the context menu and paste them into the xpat dialog.

running xpat on 1000 newsgroups will be slow (not because of newspro but because for every newsgroup newspro issues xpat command for the server, but you can run other tasks at the moment), if you have several servers you'll see results faster.

also there is a good site www.binaries.nl you can find there what you need and then run xpat in a known newsgroup.

I know the string can take 100-200 groups right now. I would like it to take 10000. I dont care how long it takes. It would be really nice if you could just increase the string.

Did you try www.binaries.nl, or www.newzsearch.com, or www.binnews.com?

I can't imagine running an XPAT on thousands of groups (or even hundreds for that matter). An XPAT on a single group right now takes me five or ten minutes to complete using about 10 servers.
