I start a download and newspro shows me: 14 hours

Now it takes ~ 24 hours (speed is constant)

Why this inexactness?

After you start a download the estimate is not very accurate.

You should wait at least a few minutes to get a fairly accurate estimate.

The estimate made might always vary because of connection/newsserver delays.

No, there are really wrong time display if you download in big DVD groups.

I always have the right remaining time in normal binary (mp3/VCD) groups but in DVD groups it shows the half of the time..

That's because:

at the start, it really should take 14 hours. But, of course, during downloading the number of posts increase because people add more.
Because the downloading takes so many time, extra time is needed to get the new headers.

Maybe also check that you remove the speed limit for getting new headers.

I don't enter "get new headers"
I mean only article/body download..

Maybe you should make notes about the speed of downloading at certain times. So for example 1 pm 300 b/s; 2 pm 200 b/s and so on.

Could be there is something wrong with your internet conection, or your (pay or ISP )server changes speed during time.

Make also a note what newspro is saying during the process.

What i mean is: at the start it says 14 hours. What does newspro say about 7 hours later?

Maybe the server gives the wrong size of the posts. You can check if you look for the sizes of the files on your computer, the ones you just downloaded. you can calculate the sizes what it should be: multiply the average speed with download time. Also remember that part of the speed is not used for downloading but for checking. So your downloaded files can be smaller.

I had the feeling that newspro shows me 14hours but count down to slow.
for example: after 7 hours newspro show remaining 12hours. But this effect is only on DVD binaries.

Maybe you should make a graph of the download speed and the display of the time left that newspro reports. When you have that data, you might see a relation. For example, look every hour and note the speed, and the time that newspro displays.

By the way, do you have the newest version of Newspro? Maybe that is the issue.

As far as I know the remaining time is constantly (on intervals) recalculated, based on the amount that is remaining, and the current speed of the downlad.

So if the download speed drops, the remaining time raises.

I'm using version 3.75

and I'm using "DU meter" to watch the download speed. And it is nearly always constant.

But then you could easily find out where things go wrong i think.

To be sure, it could be wise also to look at the clock of your computer. That displays the real time.

Maybe there is a record in newspro somewhere that tracks the amount of time passed starting from the start of the download?
Then you can really compare.

What happened re this problem?? - remaining tome too low
