Search times out with communication errors

Using UE 7.7e registered working fine re: normal operations such as scan newsgroups / download articles.
However, search not working.
First attempt brought up message box after c.20s which said: Search failed on all servers (configuration ok). A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or (message truncated at that point)
Second and subsequent attempts: Search failed on all servers (configuration ok). Communication error. Invalid ready code 28.

I have tried:
- 2 completely different networks with different ISPs (fibre ethernet home broadband vs. 5G wireless) and there is no proxy and not using vpn.
- Firewall on/off
- 2 different Windows 11 computers. First one used to work / nothing changed since. Second one clean install with default settings.

Any ideas?
Thanks.

It is an up-to-date version for registered users, many latest version changes which are not entirely new features make it to the up-to-date versions even if they are not mere bug fixes, because it also indirectly helps to keep the latest version more reliable.

A newer up-to-date version will suggest to download the current up-to-date version, earlier versions sometimes could return communication error when too old. There are check for updates options in Edit menu->Properties->General, check for up-to-date updates (at least) anyway better to have checked.

When using the latest version you can check "Check for updates" and uncheck "Check for minor updates", so the letter updates will be totally skipped.

Those check for updates options are relatively recent addition, but they work as expected.

As to the release notes regarding minor updates I think I figured it out now too - at the bottom of the original version release notes.
