Re: Need help how to filter fake posts

Thanks Alex! The "trick" I didn't see was looking at the single nfo/par file, so that shows message-id then. Good. I also didn't realize the filter editor had it when the ad-hoc (right term?) bar didn't have it (that bar at the top with the various New/Old, Read/Unread checkboxes). Any cha...

Re: Need help how to filter fake posts

I'm referring to the headers as seen within the newsgroups in UE, not the search service (altho I'd suspect they have the same problem. Let me try to explain the problem better... One person will make a "normal" post that consists of .rXX and par files. Once downloaded the content is a MKV...

Need help how to filter fake posts

I'm sure every popular newsgroup sees them - two posts with the same subject line, roughly the same overall size, but one of them instead of "normal" contents (an MKV, MP4 or such) contains another RAR file and that RAR file is passworded. There was this hint in one of the groups: > Depend...

Feature Request - Background rescan

I have an very slow internet connection, it takes hours to download a CD's worth of data. On the plus side, this makes me very careful in what I download, but on the minus side, it makes doing a long-term header get/rescan just too painful. I have my various groups spread out time-wise, and I run wi...

Re: Custom Collections broken

Okay, I understand that 3.6 did a "header reset" now. I don't think I understood most of your answer (the technical part), but that's fine, as long as you're looking at it. As far as anything else not working - The load/unload time IS much better I have 500 day retention set on a.b.multime...

Custom Collections broken

Just tried the new 3.9 - speed loading/unloading is better... but it seems that all the custom collections I had before the conversion are lost. I could create new collections, it seems to have lost almost all the previously created ones. I subscribe to a lot of "messed up" groups and use ...

Easy one

How about a beep, or some selectable sound, when a collection completes downloading?

And/or a sound when the articles queue goes to empty.

Thanks, Larry

Search/Import not look at existing headers

It seems to me, that when I do a Search, then select headers to download and save, that UE peeks at headers in existing groups, then download those. I'd rather download strictly from the Search. Here's why: I just tried to down load an audiobook from an existing group I had headers for - but it had ...

Re: Free Rate/Update Rate and Limit RAM usage

Update - I hadn't noticed the note on "Limit RAM usage" telling me that it would go in effect after the restart of UE. It is much faster after bumping to 300M.

Still, if there are any other bumps I can do...

Free Rate/Update Rate and Limit RAM usage

Just upgraded my system from a very old 2 core cpu w/4G ram to an i7 with 16G ram - and I put UE and its database on an SSD. UE itself starts INCREDIBLY fast now! The whole process of loading/unloading/reading/writing a news group is faster, but not by the amount I would have thought. What configura...

Re: Lost headers from system crash

Sorry if I'm a little dense here... I can now see that one of my groups has a hole in the headers it has. I have retention set to 400 days. When sorted by date, I can see that has 400 days old to around 200 days old, then again just about 50 days old. I don't know if its missing little holes at othe...

Re: Lost headers from system crash

I guess that's my only hope.

Tell me tho... the difference between a rescan and reset & normal header get is that all my custom collections will be lost with the reset, right?

thanks, Larry

Feature request about "select all"

When using alt-s to select all the headers (when I'm about to create a custom collection) could the logic determining the "all" part take into consideration the author and date as well as the header text itself? You see, when I'm creating a custom collection, sometimes its a repost with th...

Feature request about custom collection

I'd like to make a suggestion about the operation of custom collections: When selecting a set of headers that include a custom collection (as in adding headers to the collection), always use the existing collections name. Sometimes this happens, sometimes one of the header names show. I think where ...
