Custom Collections broken

Post by LarryM »

Just tried the new 3.9 - speed loading/unloading is better...

but it seems that all the custom collections I had before the conversion are lost. I could create new collections, it seems to have lost almost all the previously created ones.

I subscribe to a lot of "messed up" groups and use custom exclusively so this is a big deal for me. I tried running 3.6, it unconverted, but then lost all but a few items that had download articles. Happily I did a database backup before trying 3.9.

I'll check it out. Watch this thread.

v3.6 doesn't do any unconverting, since it is an older format, it warns it will just reset newsgroups.

In addition when converting or using format without sets and all files of a set belong to the same custom collection maybe it should put the set under the custom collection instead of. The implementation is it is possible also (in addition to putting whole set under custom collection) to take set files out of the set and put them under custom collection. When converting or using format without sets - sets don't exist so when they are added maybe should be some additional logic what to do about custom collections, but what you describe probably it ignores custom collections when converting while it shouldn't. I'm just speculating here, I need to look at the code I'll reply here later and maybe will put some test version as well so we confirm all works.

Within v3.9, custom collections you created after conversion, you didn't notice anything not working? I remember I revised custom collections for sets capability reasonably carefully.

Okay, I understand that 3.6 did a "header reset" now.

I don't think I understood most of your answer (the technical part), but that's fine, as long as you're looking at it. As far as anything else not working - The load/unload time IS much better I have 500 day retention set on a.b.multimedia (almost 500million headers), and a.b.hdtv over 900 million headers!), but once I saw my custom collections were gone, I paniced and went back.

Another clue - 3.9 seems to ignore the Properties->Collections drop down. I have all mine set to "custom", but the normal (yellow) collections were still present, I couldn't get rid of them.

There were a very few custom collections, maybe from articles that it didn't see as associated? I subscribe to some really messed up groups.

Thanks, Larry

yellow icons you see are not collections, those are sets.

i've emailed you a version, check if it works ok.

3.9 converted it right, just there was a little question which i didn't address, it unloaded sets with its files included into custom collecton, the files custom collection is not saved then, i just changed it so it won't unload such sets, the most logical.

just in the future when you create custom collections you will be adding the yellow set entry there instead of individual files, for those older converted entries since those were individual files you'll see individual files and not sets under the custom collection icon.

if you want to see files at all times so there will be no yellow set icons you can uncheck lower ram usage (see sets help page), but then memory consumption will be several times higher.

let me know whether this version works. read sets help file.

i noticed when importing as collection it adds individual files i'll change it tomorrow so it will be sets.
