I can not figure out how to keep Newspro from deleting the older headers when I download new ones. NO matter what I do, Newspro deletes all headers that are not currently on the server - EVEN if I have them set to download. The reason I would do this is I have another server set for d/l msg direct. I want this second server to d'l these bodies even though they are not on the main server anymore and yet be able to download new headers with the main server.
The main server has a retention of 24 hours( 1 day).
The headers were from 2 days ago so I set the retention in the Newsgroups properties tab to 1-3 days.
In the General tab, I set "Deleted/Read track after leaving groups for _ Days" to 5 days.
Nothing worked. I "get new headers" and they are all gone.
Thanks for your help.
How to keep old headers when getting new ones?
I'm not so sure there is a way. If the server you're using to pull headers from only has a retention of 24 hours, and if you're only using that server, then NP will automatically delete what's no longer found on the server. They'll still be in your local DB for as long as you specify with the "Deleted/Read track..." setting, so you can get them back by showing undeleted, but I know that's not what you want to be doing.
I could be wrong on this, but I can't think of a workaround. The only thing I can think of to try would be to set the "retention" to natural and the rest to "retain." But since the server's retention is only 24 hours, there won't be anything to retain, but, hey, worth a shot.
