Automatix NZB import folder scan

Post by Larsvb »

What would really be cool is to have a folder in which you save NZB files and Usenet Explorer automatically scan this folder and start downloading as soon as the NZB file is placed in it.

I have seen this with other newsreaders and it works perfectly and automates a lot.

it is something which would be trivial to implement.

actually if you doubleclick nzb and if ue is associated with import file types (properties->general) it will be imported automatically, you can also select several files when using the import menu options.

the import folder may be needed when you want to download something remotedly otherwise what is the difference between to doubleclick a file or press import (can be made a shortcut) then select files and saving files to a folder.

is it the case with you, what is the use of the feature?

Hi Alex,

it is just to automate stuff. Basically you are doing the same thing, download NZB, wack it in a folder, press import in UE or NP, zelect the NZB, select all files and save and download it to a folder. If you have the detination download folder as a default somewhere and a seperate forlder for your NZB files you can do the following: Download NZB, put in the special folder and UE takes care of the rest. It will pick up the NZB file, download everything what is in the NZB, save it to the specified folder and when done, delete the NZB. All automatically, wouldn't that be cool!

do you gather nzb files before importing them?

actually you can click 'open' in the browser or even in ue article view which contains nzb attachment (or 'play' from newsgroup or task manager 'downloads' view) and it will be imported right away, it also can start downloading and saving if you configure import section in properties->general and as to saving properties->newsgroups.

but it could be useful in e.g. keeping track of previous downloads if to put used nzb files into 'processed' folder, but from other side all nzb files eventually become outdated as headers expire from servers.

Opening NZB's from Firefox works like a charm.

I use NZB from NZB4U, and never ever save them to disk first ;)

it is easy to miss it was added in v1.05 since over time already several people asked for it so instead of writing more replies i added the feature for an hour, but i guess it can be used mostly for instructing the program to download remotedly.
