Download Que

Post by pbthal »

I am a former Zeonews user who gladly switched to Newspro quite sometime ago. There was one feature of Zeonews I thought was excellent, it was the ability to create que folders. I have newsfeeds and do lots of mp3 dl's but some are more important than others and you scan groups and there are articles that can wait a few days and those that you want now. It would be nice to select a group of article and que them to a folder and then be able to either scheule that folder to download or right click on it and download it

there is the 'download later' option.

you use 'download later' from the context menu.

to launch/suspend such tasks there is "tasks menu->suspend article tasks marked for later download". the actual priorities values are in properties->tasks (certain priority and below are considered 'download later' priorities), when use 'download later' from the context menu, then it will mark for download with the priority you see in properties->tasks, 'download later'.

i'm not sure whether several queues are necessary, what i'm thinking of a single queue like it is now but not a combo but a list, maybe some line to differentiate between articles marked for later download and the rest, you drag them above the line and they become active (in addition to the suspend option). would it better than several queues? with many queue folders it seems to be quite messy given that the actual queue is only one.

Yes I have used that, but from an organizational standpoint it doesnt quite meet my "overly critical" expectations  . As an example I have a huge super folder for mp3, I have subfolders but I find I like the all encompassing folder since people cross post and articles get tossed wherever. If I'm scrolling thru a huge list I can see a Peter Gabriel remaster that would be nice so I would like to select it and place it in a folder/que that is called "Get later-MP3" further on the list I see Scorpions IN trance remastered, I want that now, so I download as normal, further down the list I see Eric Clapton Box set, big download, so I want to wait a bit and put it in "Box Set-Mp3" que, etc. etc. Then at my leisure after IVe spent an hour sorting theu the mpe folder I can select from my ques what I want to download

I had used Zeonews in the past too, and I believe what you are talking about is being able to search and extract some headers from a long list and then save them as a 'derived' group. I forget what they called it, but is analagous to saved searches I guess. Then you could decide which was more important to download first. I believe that you can search and extract things to a new window, and that would be available for that session, but not saved across sessions.

Actually what you would do is scroll down a list of headers, highlight a group of them and right click and you could create a new "que folder" or move them to an existing one

Right, and what I am saying is to put headers into a new window, then search on the ones you found and extract them in the new window. In other words, after you see the first couple, use the search function to get the rest. You then have a new window with only a specific set of downloads. The search can be a wildmat to put say.. 2 different CDs in the 'new' window.

I mean filter instead of search... I apologize as am out of town and dont even have Newspro to look at right now.

Ok, I think the behaviour in zeonews was to be able to select, either manually, or by specifying a filter for them, a group of headers.. and then designating them as a 'derived' group, or new 'folder', that can be saved across sessions, similar to xpat groups. You can then prioritize or re-prioritize according to what you want to get first. The saving across sessions is important for power outages, or need to reboot for critical updates, etc

Rather than a "queue" I would consider it more of a "batch". You would add a select group of headers to a particular batch, then assign priorities to a batch or have NewsPro process just a specified batch (etc.).

This is what you're getting at, right?

Yes basically a set of "batch folders" I typically could have 10-20 of these a session, I mean lets face it if you have a lot of mp3 groups thats a lot of scrolling and selecting.
