Avast ate UE 3.7; older versions don't start up anymore

Post by snert »

Hi Alex,

hopefully you can help me out with this: I upgraded to 3.7 the other day, and after starting it, Avast first tried to auto-andbox UE, and then finally moved the binary to it's Quarantaine folder. Since I wasn't sure what was going on here I reinstalled an older version of UE, but suddenly they stopped to work.

In fact I tried several older versions (3.4, 3.5 and 3.6) that used to work fine, but each time I start them all I see is the small progress window quickly flashing open; progressing up to "loading tasks", and then closing again. The main UI never shows up and the UE task is not showing up in the process list.

Since I also switched monitors between the last time UE worked and the upgrade, I also swapped back the bigger monitor, but all to no avail.

All UE versions I tested were x64 releases on Windows 7 Home Premium x64. I checked the system's Application event log but found no error message. If UE writes an error log, then I haven't found it.

Is there any way to recover from this without losing all of my settings and all of the newsgroup headers?

Thank you very much in advance for your help!

read this:

here are the uncompressed executables:

http://www.usenetexplorer.com/ue393reg.rar

R64 is 64 bit version, just rename the file to UE.exe

Hi Alex,

thank you very much, the uncompressed 3.7 works.
