Expand all volXXX+XX.par2 sets?

Is there a way to expand a newsgroup's volXXX+XX.par2 sets so that it's permanently open? More specifically, is there a means to sort for only the .par2 file and not any of the volXXX+XX.par2 files?

There is an option threads menu->show sets (for permanent setting edit menu->properties->newsgroups, the topmost Default item, select "No" for Sets). Then try your filters if they will work satisfactory. Sets which are stored on the disk will be still shown without files (cannot be all expanded, they will be only loaded when you doubleclick them individually). You can uncheck edit menu->properties->general, Sets, lower memory usage so the sets will be kept in full in RAM, but RAM consumption will be much higher then.

Or you can disable sets completely in edit menu->properties general, Sets, then sorting will become more precise, but RAM usage will be even more higher.
