I am looking for example for a long time for "Johny Warman" data, an artist from the eighties. I don't want to look every day in every newsgroup, and apply the appropriate filter and check. Also that filter will interfere with the actual search action for other posts I want to do.
If i just could say once to the software: "whenever you have to look for new postings in newsgroups, check as well if you can find "Johny Warman" and if you do, put the data into a separate text file." "But don't filter the contents of the newsgroup, don't interfere with other search activities". For example when the programs does an xpat search, it might "secretly" look for "Johny Warman" at the same time.
Then this way, I don't have to look every day.
Maybe this kind of option already exists, i don't know.
another search option
there is the edit menu->global filter option.
it scans the database in the beginning, afterwards it tracks matching records for incoming headers.
the life span of the filter is as long as its window is open, to switch to it fast press ctrl+w and then click its name (you enter an arbitrary name in the beginning).

It is good to know that the whole database can be searched with the global filter. I will first check how the global filter works, and what I can do with it. I will try with global filters that will actually find something, "Johny Warman" probably does not give many results.
Alex, thank you for your answer.
