[req] auot/watch rescan per newsgroup instead of common sett

Post by Erik »

Hi Alex,

Yesterday i had a good use for "rescan every xx time", because one group had a bad retention, but was very liitle (a rescan cost only 2 minutes).

But it was also downloading/watching from a very very big dump newgroup with good retention.
The problem is that NP wanted to scan that dumpgroup too, that one takes 30 minutes :-)
so i dont want to rescan that one

It seems that or you dont rescan at all while auto/watching, or you rescan every newsgroup you are watching.

Is it possible build something in NP to make rescan newsgroup dependend just like "get new headers every xx minutes"
So i can choose witch newsgroup to rescan.

thanks
Erik

for many servers you don't need rescan, since they don't add headers out of order so you can just leave the field empty and invoke rescan manually and very rarely if at all.

Hi,

Thats true, but the idea is that i leave the pc on for 48 hours and leave the house. People tell in the forum what they gone post the next week before they actualy post it :)

So manually activating the rescan isnt always possible. But if builiding it is difficult or timeconsuming, i can live with it :)

it is not difficult to add, but the controls in the watch pane are crowded enough already.

if servers don't add articles out of order and the server retention is adequate (even if not) there is no big problem not to use rescan at all; if you use rescan and you left for 2 days - 30 min don't matter since all is done asynchronously, rescan doesn't affect other tasks.
