cannot download directly from "Search service"...

In the case of a search service disruption the status updates will be shown here.

05 Jun 26: There was an attempt to release v7.8.1 with change in search service protocol, but I noticed something is maybe wrong with the server management version (derivative of UE) and reverted all back out of abundance of caution, it was available for at most 20 minutes. If you downloaded it during the short time period (after trying to use the search service since I didn't set the update notification) downgrade to v7.8 since there is no clear UE notification when the search protocol has been possibly downgraded (which will be now added, since I didn't foresee such scenario, it will be something positive to come out of this). It might be very few users in single digits who are affected. The message will be removed after I sort it out and make the release now maybe as v7.8.2.

cannot download directly from "Search service"...

Post by dcthom »

Hello,
used to be that I could use "Search service", find desired message and download directly from the search service (results) tab.

That is not working anymore.

Now, after I use "Search service", the results are still posted to the same tab, but I cannot download from there. The message is marked for download, appear in "Articles" tab (w/ red exclamation), and also appear in "Inbox" tab, yet will not download.

My workaround: From the search results tab I get the name of the newsgroup for the desired message, then (subscribe to) get headers from THAT newsgroup, then am able to do the download from there, the individual/specific newsgroup.

Any idea why I can't download directly from Search service results? I swapped news providers a little while back. I don't know if it's related to the new provider, my configs for that provider, or a change on UE's end.

Appreciate any info.

Great software!!

if you expand the import group (the group where search results are imported to) in the workspace, do you see the server?

if not invoke advanced->attach all servers (but in principle when you add a server it is attached to all groups, so it should be there).

otherwise only if you create newsgroup of "article numbers" type and you changed "request article method" in "properties->articles" to "article number" it is a problem with provider, then in task manager in the red sign error pane you should see "no such article" error.

is it one of those two cases?

Took me a while to figure what you meant, as I was looking in the Import "View" not "Workspace" No, the server was not there. I did the advanced -> attach and it works now. :D

Thank you for your fast response!! :)
