Search Server - Still Down?

In the case of a search service disruption the status updates will be shown here.

05 Jun 26: There was an attempt to release v7.8.1 with change in search service protocol, but I noticed something is maybe wrong with the server management version (derivative of UE) and reverted all back out of abundance of caution, it was available for at most 20 minutes. If you downloaded it during the short time period (after trying to use the search service since I didn't set the update notification) downgrade to v7.8 since there is no clear UE notification when the search protocol has been possibly downgraded (which will be now added, since I didn't foresee such scenario, it will be something positive to come out of this). It might be very few users in single digits who are affected. The message will be removed after I sort it out and make the release now maybe as v7.8.2. It is also possible that it is nothing, in such a case v7.8.1 will be reinstated.

Search Server - Still Down?

Post by mariela06 »

I get the message that the service is being backed up. Are there problems with the search service?
I have not been able to access it since yesterday and the last post that indicates is down was dated last week.

there were some restarts yesterday due to exhausting RAM, i'm rearranging things now.

i may restart it few times, i'll remove the backup message in the forum main page when i'm done.

if you see any problem with search like it is restarting a server and there is no message about database backup on the main forum page (it is quite rare) - report it immediately on forum.

i have search service monitoring but it has some tolerance to avoid false alarms since sometimes it might be dns problems or lost connectivity.

as to restarting though in the future i will catch this specific condition so i'll be aware of restarts right away. normally server doesn't restart by itself at all, only in the case of power failure or e.g. exhausting RAM to allocate database data/index space (at least i wrote down a note to add it).
