Hi,
first the odd thing: Auto Collections can't be enabled any more. Under Properties->Newsgroups->Collections Auto&Custom is selected. I even tried changing to "Auto" also for some Newsgroups.
I emptied a newsgroup also and re-downloaded headers. No luck. Auto Collections are greyed out and can't be activated.
Another thing: I downloaded 3.0 a couple of days ago and I see now 2.9.5 is the last version again. Ok, I went back to that version, but it would be nice to know why 3.0 was pulled? It seemed to work just fine.
Auto Collection greyed out ... and why was 3.0 pulled?
Re: Auto Collection greyed out ... and why was 3.0 pulled?
Ensure edit menu->properties->general, collections, auto collections is enabled, if not UE works in mode with a bit less RAM consumption without keeping any information about auto collections.
With v3.0 I explained already, it was up only for couple of hours, since I couldn't verify performance gain (my connection was almost down for a week) and users gave me some contradictory data.
From my tests later I didn't find there is significant performance increase, it means even as I leave the bypass option it will be disabled by default and up to the user to use it or not. The option does work and if no system file cache it could be 30% faster comparing to database storage, it means if quite low on RAM maybe it will be preferable. Also I didn't test it in Windows 7, I noticed it is sometimes much slower than xp and not as good in multitasking, so maybe bypass is faster there.
You may try to compare database storage versus bypass and give your feedback, I was testing it yesterday for several hours.
So it will be released as v3.0.1, actually it is ready.

Yes, that was it! I think I disabled it long before the 64 Bit Version came out, to save RAM.alex wrote:Ensure edit menu->properties->general, collections, auto collections is enabled, if not UE works in mode with a bit less RAM consumption without keeping any information about auto collections.
Thanks. From my own experience, I think the overall effect is less "sluggishness" if you have an older system. In the past, downloading huge parts, like 50 or 100 MB parts, lead to the harddisks not being able to keep up with saving and moving. The system would then become sluggish. With this new option, only repair and unrar operations take CPU power which is normal.alex wrote: With v3.0 I explained already, it was up only for couple of hours, since I couldn't verify performance gain (my connection was almost down for a week) and users gave me some contradictory data.

actually i disabled it in v3.0.1, but probably i'll reenable it.
i'm still testing it - now with more aggresive buffering.
