Non-recoverable error?

Post by LarryM »

I have installed the latest version, 3.0.2 and just about everything I download now gets a message on the Unpack tab: Non-recoverable.

If I download the par files and manually run QuickPar, it fixes the broken part(s), and WinRar can then extracts the files.

Do I have something set wrong ?

The original download did include the PAR files, I don't understand why UE can't seem to fix things now.

thanks, Larry

Can you pm me an example?

In the unpack pane, if you expand the par2 set do you see those par2 files or they are not downloaded at all?

Is it rar or split set?

I may have gotten things out-of-sync clearing things out when I put the new version in place. A fresh down load of a collection that previously failed now worked.

Could be operator error.

Larry

Double opps... despite saying it was fixing the download, it failed. Info PM'd

Is there any collection which was saved properly or you get verify failed (is it the error?) on everything you download?

Even if all downloaded ok and didn't required repair - does unrar fail / you run quickpar it indicates errors?

I have exact the same error and problem.. it look like that UE don't use the par files and directly delete them..
I have this problem with all my downloads which are not fully correct, so where repair is needed..

Is the error "Verify failed"?

The details of the first case (pm) files were saved, but afterwards files where were listed as "complete" were corrupted. I'm still waiting for more feedback / example to check it further.

Is it your case as well?

Do you see those par2 files both on the disk and listed under the par2 set in the unpack pane? UE won't delete those files from the disk if repair failed.

Say you take any post, skip one rar file, so repair will be needed what will happen?

For example I took arbitrary post:

Subject: Dynasty Seizoen 1 DVD3 [*/105] - "Dynasty Seizoen 1 Dvd 3" Author: CPP-gebruiker@domein.nl (MiNoeS) Date: Wed, Jul 14 23:00 alt.binaries.dvd

marked for download all par2 files and all rars except for part090.rar, part091.rar and part092.rar

and it worked ok.

does this post also works for you? are you using 3.0.2?

Well, I am unable to reproduce the problem today.

After having the problem with 3.0.2 yesterday, I reloaded 3.0.1 - which functioned properly. Today, to get info for Alex, I put 3.0.2 back. I downloaded collections that needed repair, it seems to be doing that.

Is there some chance that when I originally closed down 3.0.1 (to upgrade to 3.0.2) that something in the database didn't get updated correctly, then when I loaded 3.0.2 it was sort of out-of-sync or something like that?

I dunno, but so far so good with 3.0.2 today.

Do you have edit menu->properties->save/unpack, bypass database storage unchecked?

If you didn't set it manually in v3.0.2 - 3.0.1 unchecked it.

In such a case 3.0.2 basically works as 2.9.5.

On this presumption, if verify repair failed - it means most likely some kind of antivirus interference, files landed on disk not the same as were written.

If so try to check bypass database storage option, as to now UE reads resulting files after they have been written into disk so it is less likely the files will be corrupted en route (since checksuming is done after write and not before).

But better you should address the problem at its root, since in the future the fastest way will be checksuming before write (right now it is conceptually the same fast as no bypass, but I may add futher optional improvements to address higher connection speeds given the same hard drive performance). So maybe better to leave options as they are and try to play with antivirus settings or aninstall it temporarily until the problem is pinpointed.

What antivirus are you using (name/version), if the problem is the same as the second poster maybe it is the same as that of other poster.

Bypass database storage IS checked. I am using Prevx 3.0, but I am pretty sure it would not quietly delete or change any files. It never has never done so to date, it has always popped up a message before doing anything. It has never bothered any UE downloads.

I may have gotten faked out because the collections I tried to find as examples were "joins" and not rar's, so once UE downloaded them and did not see any corrupt parts, it joined them. I now have UE set to NOT delete the PAR files and see that QUickPar finds corrupt parts that UE doesn't.

Try this one: from a.b.hdtv find the subject "Covert Affairs s1e03 Southbound Suarez" According to QuickPar parts 0001.ts and 0010.ts are missing 1 block each. UE says that both are complete, and went right to the join.

Also in the same news group, "Covert Affairs s1e02 Walter's Walk" - QuickPar says parts 0022, 0023, and 0044 are each short a block, UE said they are complete.

Hmm... in fair disclosure - quickpar says those parts are corrupt, but after repair, it still says they are corrupt. What's up with that?

However, also in a.b.hdtv, "Warehouse 13 s2e01 Time Will Tell" UE saw no corrupt parts, quickpar saw three, and did repair them.

In a.b.tv.hdtv.x264 there's "[14274]-[#a.b.hdtv.x264@EFNet]-[ Date.Night.2010.720p.BluRay.x264-METiS ]-[01/96] - "metis-datenight-720p.###" yEnc (1/1)" UE sees no corrupt parts then fails to unrar: CRC error or wrong password. QuickPar sees part r02 as corrupt as does WinRar.

This is more complicated!

I re-loaded 3.0.1 of UE and re-downloaded the very same collection of "[14274]-[#a.b.hdtv.x264@EFNet]-[ Date.Night.2010.720p.BluRay.x264-METiS ]-[01/96] - "metis-datenight-720p.###" yEnc (1/1)"

Now part r02 is not corrupt. Bypass database storage is still checked.

Re-trying each of the three samples, redownloading the previous "corrupt" parts with 3.0.1 are now not corrupt.

Bypass checked makes it a bit more definite.

I've downloaded "Warehouse 13 s2e01 Time Will Tell" with v3.0.2 and v3.0.3 both without any problem (in WinXP).

I've just checked and I looks now it is Win7 bug, but I addressed the issue by removing some function call, so it should work again in v3.0.3.

I moved towards speeding download in 3.0.2, the call was present in the earlier code, but not really needed, it also slowed down downloads in Win7.

There is comment there from about 2 weeks ago which more or less correlates with what you described, but it is not the whole story since also the function fails sometimes.

System bugs, you should expect something complicated.

I now guess you run Windows 7, the bug is present in both 32 and 64 bit Win7 versions since I saw the exception from both.

Is all ok with v3.0.3 then?

Alex - thanks for your investigation. I am running w7.

A couple quick samples would seem that all is fine now.

Thanks !!! Larry
