Kill Filters

Post by boston62 »

Here is a screen shot of what I have, I want a filter to Kill all messages with the word German in the Subject.

I have this filter in the Properties>Kill Filter set for 2 news groups to Completly Discard.

But I keep seeing the messages with the word German in the Subject.

Thanks for the help anyone....

Check this:

http://www.usenetexplorer.com/help/filters.htm

You need to define what headers match the kill filter, it appears you defined the opposite.

Before you associate a kill filter - try to download some headers and apply it as the view filter (in the toolbar there is a combo box named "current newsgroup filter" in the help topic above - where you can select a view filter applying it to the current view) to see which headers will match to the kill filter - so you'll see which headers will be discarded when you add it to the kill filter pane.

ya I printed that Filter sheet out, I have been doing that using the View Filter to test it, strange it works in the View Filter, I just typed in I am number 4 , and it works, but when I try to create the same thing it fails. Well thanks for helping Alex, I'll get it.

In a way the same filter applied as view / kill filter will have the opposite effect.

View filter will show headers matching the filter.

Kill filter will delete or discard headers matching the filter.

So when you apply the kill filter as a view filter - you will see headers which will be deleted/discarded, not those which will be left.

Reverting the meaning of the kill filter would be more confusing.
