xpat timeout

I am trying xpat on a large group ( a.b.boneless ) on astraweb and it keeps timing out without getting any headers.
Is there something I can do about it ( I have set timeout to 1000 sec and have tried higher )

only to set a higher timeout, just server doesn't respond within the time.
